    "More Bad Judges"

Jack Newfield of The Nation has a piece about the Bush administration's latest crop of federal judicial nominees. Needless to say, he does not approve, concluding:

Bush is trying to transform America through lifetime judicial appointments for this biased batch and their clones. The bottom line is that the reckless Bushies are willing to violate computer privacy and vandalize the Bill of Rights to expedite this transformation. George W. Bush was appointed President by the Supreme Court after losing the popular vote by more than 500,000. Now he is trying to use the courts to legislate a mandate the voters never gave him by abusing the power of appointment and ignoring the Constitution's "advise and consent" clause.

    Thanks!

Notice that Shawn Meador is a contributor to Weller's campaign; Tim Lukas was not.

There may be something to the theory that Weller's Family Court decisions coincide with the contributions he did or did not receive...

It would be interesting to have someone do a thorough investigation to prove or disprove the theory.

Can anyone explain why Charles Mc Gee was in Judge Wellers office at the time of the sniping incident? I thought Mc Gee had retired a while ago. Was Mc Gee there in some sort of official capacity as a consultant or employee of the court? If Mc Gee is advising or consulting current judges on the cases that are before them, this could be a possible explanation of how a judge like Weller could walk into the courtroom with his mind already made up.

I have figured out from your comments who your ex-husband is. You are correct, he is a disturbed man and it does concern our community that he is running for a prominent office and is a Reno attorney and former judge practicing some family law. Just what Reno needs, more crazy men in public office. I pray that this abusive man will no longer cause you and your children pain. Voters - BEWARE! A good thing is that it is known that one of his opponents is the favorite.

Here is the reply I received from the RGJ.

This came up in his campaign for judge.

I asked him about it in a October 2004 story and this was his reply:

Weller’s first bid for elective office was in 1986 when he ran as a Democrat against incumbent David Humke, a Republican, in the Assembly District 26 in Washoe County. Weller lost with 2,522 votes to Humke’s 3,666 votes. During the race, Weller came under fire for his involvement in a company that was accused by the Federal Trade Commission of making illegal sales of oil and gas leases in Alaska.

Weller did not face criminal charges but was ordered “to cease misrepresenting the value or potential value of oil and gas rights or other investments offered,” according to agency records, and ordered to pay $60,000 to a customer redress fund. He said last week that he had worked for the company for about seven months and left when he learned that the owners were involved in illegal activities.

“I found out they were crooks, and I helped put them in jail,” Weller said. “I returned the money that was made. It made me a better lawyer and will make me a better judge.”

Can anyone explain why President Bush or Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsefeld was in Reno the day that Judge Weller got shot??? Doesn't that seem just a litte suspicious to you, like maybe they got an intelligence briefing beforehand to avoid Reno on THAT particular day?! Come to think of it, we haven't even really seen mention of this anywhere in the news...maybe the CIA has all the news organizations in on it. I wouldn't be surprised.

sundown, your an idiot. how can you judge wether i'm phony or not? you know nothing about me. i suppose because i'm the man i'm supposed to just roll over and let her f*** me up the ass? it's because of ignorant sexist cunts like you that darren mack did what he did. don't agree with him, but i understand how someone could feel they have no alternative. i suppose you think my kids would be better off with a drunk high loser of a mom? stupid bitch.

    justmy.02-

Never mind Sundown's garbage. I think she may be trying to hide something of her own by flaunting her 'wonderful 26 years with the same man' in order to criticize you for the bad luck you encountered.

It's that kind of high-'n-mighty attitude that eventually gets people kicked in the teeth.

Just keep doing right by your kids regardless of the judge. Your kids will eventually see past their mother's BS. Kids don't want to admit it, but they do value stability and rules- it is reassuring to them.

You sound like a super husband and Dad to me!

anonymous, i am far from a chauvinist, and generally a very mild mannered person. i just have little patience for ignorant people who make judgement calls without knowing any facts. and by the way, my kid's "super mom" just failed a random drug test today. but i guess thats my fault too?

Oversight wrote the following a few days ago:"the only positive thing to come out of this will be the investigations into the family courts here and the anti-male bias but if darrens actions are portrayed as all about money instead of concern over his daughter the family court problems will most likely be overlooked."

While I feel bias (male or female) has no place in the Courts, this comment made me wonder. Is this all about the daughter and possibly what she told her father that fateful morning?

As I understand it, Charla and daughter went to Darren's Reno home. A friend was there with his dog. Did the daughter get a chance to speak with her father, and if she did, what did she say? Or, maybe she called him earlier than the arrival to complain about being with mom. Was it enough to anger Darren to the point to lose control? Maybe this was a father trying to smoothe things over with an unyielding mother. If you read some of the news reports on Charla, this is not hard to fathom.

Of course, this doesn't help the fact that Charla is no longer with us. But, maybe, there is more to this than meets the eye.

Hey, DB, my relationship and marriage ain't perfect, but hey, I'm better off than .02! You're just envious, that's all. Eat your heart out :o)

And .02, you're also a hypocrite, using Christ's name and then calling me names. Like I said you'r phony

    June 19, 2006 | Unregistered CommenterSundown
Ok, so I guess Richard Gammick just made a secret message to Darren?? Mr Gammick, if I were on the run, I don't know that I'd be calling the DA. Something tells me that Darren feels the same. Nevertheless, I hope he calls you and this all gets resolved peacefully.I know I'd be living in some obscure village in the mountains of rural India by now.I mean how many millions of Mexicans sneak across the border every year?? Not exactly hard. Once you get across, anything goes. There are basically no restrictions from Mexico, with a little money, to get anywhere in the world.

He's probably got some money stashed away somewhere. As long as he didn't go totally insane and do random acts of violence (and come on, how "random" is sniping? Not very), he would have thought out the outcome a little and made a plan. So I'm sure he thought out a way to not get caught.
    Or, perhaps...

This also could have been a very spontaneous act, fused by a father wanting to assert himself regarding his daughter's welfare; and a mother who felt she could stand up to him. What was usually a screaming match turned physical, with Charla being stabbed (an emotional act), and her life ended. I find it hard to believe that any parent would intentionally or plan to kill the other parent with the child(ren) nearby. Especially a person who has been purported to love his child(ren), as has been expressed by the family members.

After the act happened, anger and rage would set in, especially if somehow you felt you lost control and didn't mean for it to happen, but emotions got the better of you. Obviously, all logical thinking is gone by this time, and you now believe you have nothing to lose. Believing that it is the Judge's fault, he's the one who let the mother get away with destroying Darren, you decide to get even with the one person who you believe caused you all this pain and harm. Not well thought out, you now drive over to the Court house, and the best you can do is attempt to shoot the Judge. But you can't get inside the Court house with a gun or rifle, so you find a spot where you have a reasonable chance of hitting the Judge. After all, in your frantic state, all you can think about is getting even with the cause of all your heartache at this point.

Now what... that is the question. Well, if I owned a pawn shop, I would probably know some undesirable people that would do probably almost anything for money. Maybe I should contact one of them. Better yet, maybe I should get out of the area, after all, Reno is not that big of an area, and I am well known here. I can't contact family or friends, as I don't want to get them in trouble. If I can get someone's driver license or other ID, that might give me a better chance to continue running. And, with all of this, I have lost what I treasure most - my children. If he did somewhat plan this, he certainly did not think it through very well.

sundown, do you not understand the meaning of a hypocrite? i never claimed to be perfect, nor did i claim to be sinless. i am not perfect by any means, nor have i ever claimed to be. that would make me a hypocrite. those that call themselves christians and claim to live a perfect holy life and then go home and beat thier wives, or mollest thier children are the true hypocrites. so hey, i know i'm not perfect and i will gladly admit that. God can't do anything in a person that thinks they have no faults. "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"

I have read the majority of the comments on this site and just like family court, everyone is torn and has their opinion. I personally dealt with Weller before he became a Judge. He was a practicing attorney. I was referred by a friend who knew him as an aquantance. I was getting a divorce and had a 5 month old child. The divorce and custody was mutually agreed upon, however, the father/ex-husband is a dirt bag and never came to a single visitation nor did he pay one dime of the child support he agreed to. I had gone to Weller to talk about terminating the father's parental rights. I took my dad with me. I started to explain the situation which, in a nutshell, was that not only had there been NO contact of any kind from the childs father, but no contact of any kind from anyone in his family of which all live here. I wasn't there 3 minutes when Weller interrupted me saying " I bet you make it hard for his mother to visit!" I was stunned. I looked at my dad and looked at Weller and said, "I don't know what would make you say that! She likes me more than she likes her own son". So, I was appalled at his demeanor, or lack there of. He was short and rude and very uninterested in my case. My dad was a bit taken back as well. When Weller ran for Judge I begged everyone I know NOT to vote for him!!!! Anyone couldn't be as bad as him. He is NOT the lesser of two evils, he IS the evil. About one year after he took the bench, my Family Court case worker called me stating that my ex's first wife wanted to file Contemp of Court paperwork against my ex for not paying child support. My case worker called me because she knew I never wanted ANY child suuport. She knew I was/am afraid of him. To me it is bad kharma. So, I went in to talk to her, again with my dad, about the procedure. She went on to say that she may not even file the Contemp of Court papers because "the judge doesn't like Contempt of Court cases." I said, "what does that mean? That he is hard on them?! Punishes them?". She said "no, he thinks they are a waste of time and doesn't want them in his court." I paused and said "is the Judge Chuck Weller?" She said "yes! We have a lot of problems with him." I pretty much gave up right there. If the system can't even have a stong link with the judge, what does it have? So, because he would be the Judge for me if I pursue the Term. of Parental Rights, I haven't done it. I have been waiting for him to get out of there, retire, be voted out, whatever before I could do it.On the day of the shooting, a friend called me about 11:30am and asked if I was watching the News. I asked her why and she said that a judge was just shot downtown by a sniper. I immediatley said, "I bet it was Chuck Weller." I called her about 30-40 minutes later, once his name was posted on CNN and said "I told you he was a jerk and unfair. He has pissed off one too many people".The other strange thing was the this Mack guy had taken paperwork into channel 4 news for them to investigate. His case was over and he wanted Shelby Sheehan to investigate the judge so this wouldn't happen to someone else. I had also asked her to investigate Weller, right at the beginning of this year.I would never want anyone hurt or dead, but I sure hope the good that may come out of the bad is that Chuck Weller will FINALLY be investigated and seen for who he truly is. When someone shows you who they are, believe them--the FIRST time! Weller only cares about his own gains and money. Not lives and the daily grind of those in a bad situation. He PRE judges cases and people. Also, all of the attorneys who have stood before him need to be full on inveestigated as well. Hopefully THIS leg of corruption can come to an end.

I REALLY THINK THAT HOW THIS SITUATION CAME ABOUT WILL DETERMINE DARREN MACKS LEGACY.WAS HE A GRIEFSTRUCK FATHER WHO HAD HIS PRECIOUS GIRL HANDED 95% OF THE TIME TO A PSYCHO BIOTCH THAT WAS GOING TO USE HER AS A PAWN TO GET UNDER HER EXES SKIN AND TWIST HER BRAIN FOR LIFE ......OR..... WAS HE A GUY THAT MONEY MEANT SO MUCH TO THAT HE LOST HIS MARBLES OVER THE COIN.NEITHER OF THESE ARE REASONS TO KILL BUT THERE WILL BE A LOT MORE SYMPATHY IF THE MAIN REASON WAS HIS CHILD EVEN THOUGH THATS NOT JUSTIFICATION.I HAVE HEARD THAT HE WAS A VERY GOOD DAD BEFORE THIS(DEVOTED TO HIS KIDS ETC) BUT ALS A PRETTY SHREWD BUSINESS MAN THAT VALUED HIS SELF MADE WEALTH A LOT. I HAVE ALSO HEARD OF AND NOW READ ALOT OF HORROR STORIES IN RENO FAMILY COURT. THE JUDGES RULING COST HIM A LOT OF $, IF HE LOVED HIS COIN THAT COULD TIP HIM. THE JUDGES RULING ALSO MADE HIM A DISTANT FATHER AND IF THE MOM WAS UNFIT THAT COULD TIP HIM. EITHER WAY HE SNAPPED BAD BUT THE COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION WILL BE SWAYED BY HIS MOTIVATIONS NO MATTER HOW HEINOUS THE CRIME.MY2CENT, I THINK WANNABE LAWYER IS WRITING BOTH SUNDOWN AND YOU TO GET A RISE, IF NOT , SORRY FOR MY BUTTING IN.

Sorry, Sundown. I'm not envious of anyone, starting with you.

I don't have a need to feel better than anyone. I do not brag, nor do I judge people on their circumstances.

Everyone does the best they can with what they were dealt in life. When someone's having difficulties though, a caring, intelligent person would help them through instead of making insensitive comments like you have to justmy.02.

I certainly won't eat my heart out over you, but at least I have heart. That's more than you can say.
