"More Bad Judges"

Jack Newfield of The Nation has a piece about the Bush administration's latest crop of federal judicial nominees. Needless to say, he does not approve, concluding:
Bush is trying to transform America through lifetime judicial appointments for this biased batch and their clones. The bottom line is that the reckless Bushies are willing to violate computer privacy and vandalize the Bill of Rights to expedite this transformation. George W. Bush was appointed President by the Supreme Court after losing the popular vote by more than 500,000. Now he is trying to use the courts to legislate a mandate the voters never gave him by abusing the power of appointment and ignoring the Constitution's "advise and consent" clause.

There may be something to the theory that Weller's Family Court decisions coincide with the contributions he did or did not receive...
It would be interesting to have someone do a thorough investigation to prove or disprove the theory.
I have figured out from your comments who your ex-husband is. You are correct, he is a disturbed man and it does concern our community that he is running for a prominent office and is a Reno attorney and former judge practicing some family law. Just what Reno needs, more crazy men in public office. I pray that this abusive man will no longer cause you and your children pain. Voters - BEWARE! A good thing is that it is known that one of his opponents is the favorite.
This came up in his campaign for judge.
I asked him about it in a October 2004 story and this was his reply:
Weller’s first bid for elective office was in 1986 when he ran as a Democrat against incumbent David Humke, a Republican, in the Assembly District 26 in Washoe County. Weller lost with 2,522 votes to Humke’s 3,666 votes. During the race, Weller came under fire for his involvement in a company that was accused by the Federal Trade Commission of making illegal sales of oil and gas leases in Alaska.
Weller did not face criminal charges but was ordered “to cease misrepresenting the value or potential value of oil and gas rights or other investments offered,” according to agency records, and ordered to pay $60,000 to a customer redress fund. He said last week that he had worked for the company for about seven months and left when he learned that the owners were involved in illegal activities.
“I found out they were crooks, and I helped put them in jail,” Weller said. “I returned the money that was made. It made me a better lawyer and will make me a better judge.”

Never mind Sundown's garbage. I think she may be trying to hide something of her own by flaunting her 'wonderful 26 years with the same man' in order to criticize you for the bad luck you encountered.
It's that kind of high-'n-mighty attitude that eventually gets people kicked in the teeth.
Just keep doing right by your kids regardless of the judge. Your kids will eventually see past their mother's BS. Kids don't want to admit it, but they do value stability and rules- it is reassuring to them.
You sound like a super husband and Dad to me!
sundown, your an idiot. how can you judge wether i'm phony or not? you know nothing about me. i suppose because i'm the man i'm supposed to just roll over and let her f*** me up the ass? it's because of ignorant sexist cunts like you that darren mack did what he did. don't agree with him, but i understand how someone could feel they have no alternative. i suppose you think my kids would be better off with a drunk high loser of a mom? stupid bitch.*********************
No, I think your kids are better off with your hostile, obviously chauvinistic, sorry ass.
While I feel bias (male or female) has no place in the Courts, this comment made me wonder. Is this all about the daughter and possibly what she told her father that fateful morning?
As I understand it, Charla and daughter went to Darren's Reno home. A friend was there with his dog. Did the daughter get a chance to speak with her father, and if she did, what did she say? Or, maybe she called him earlier than the arrival to complain about being with mom. Was it enough to anger Darren to the point to lose control? Maybe this was a father trying to smoothe things over with an unyielding mother. If you read some of the news reports on Charla, this is not hard to fathom.
Of course, this doesn't help the fact that Charla is no longer with us. But, maybe, there is more to this than meets the eye.
And .02, you're also a hypocrite, using Christ's name and then calling me names. Like I said you'r phony
He's probably got some money stashed away somewhere. As long as he didn't go totally insane and do random acts of violence (and come on, how "random" is sniping? Not very), he would have thought out the outcome a little and made a plan. So I'm sure he thought out a way to not get caught.
This also could have been a very spontaneous act, fused by a father wanting to assert himself regarding his daughter's welfare; and a mother who felt she could stand up to him. What was usually a screaming match turned physical, with Charla being stabbed (an emotional act), and her life ended. I find it hard to believe that any parent would intentionally or plan to kill the other parent with the child(ren) nearby. Especially a person who has been purported to love his child(ren), as has been expressed by the family members.
After the act happened, anger and rage would set in, especially if somehow you felt you lost control and didn't mean for it to happen, but emotions got the better of you. Obviously, all logical thinking is gone by this time, and you now believe you have nothing to lose. Believing that it is the Judge's fault, he's the one who let the mother get away with destroying Darren, you decide to get even with the one person who you believe caused you all this pain and harm. Not well thought out, you now drive over to the Court house, and the best you can do is attempt to shoot the Judge. But you can't get inside the Court house with a gun or rifle, so you find a spot where you have a reasonable chance of hitting the Judge. After all, in your frantic state, all you can think about is getting even with the cause of all your heartache at this point.
Now what... that is the question. Well, if I owned a pawn shop, I would probably know some undesirable people that would do probably almost anything for money. Maybe I should contact one of them. Better yet, maybe I should get out of the area, after all, Reno is not that big of an area, and I am well known here. I can't contact family or friends, as I don't want to get them in trouble. If I can get someone's driver license or other ID, that might give me a better chance to continue running. And, with all of this, I have lost what I treasure most - my children. If he did somewhat plan this, he certainly did not think it through very well.
I don't have a need to feel better than anyone. I do not brag, nor do I judge people on their circumstances.
Everyone does the best they can with what they were dealt in life. When someone's having difficulties though, a caring, intelligent person would help them through instead of making insensitive comments like you have to justmy.02.
I certainly won't eat my heart out over you, but at least I have heart. That's more than you can say.
