Class Action Filed Against FEMA re: Katrina

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — More than a dozen Hurricane Katrina victims from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama filed a lawsuit Thursday accusing the federal government of wrongfully denying them temporary housing assistance. Attorneys said this is probably the first of a string of suits to be filed against the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other government agencies.
"FEMA has fallen so far from the mark of what they were supposed to do. There's no excuse," said Howard Godnick, an attorney for the plaintiffs.
The lawsuit, which asks for class-action status, seeks to make FEMA immediately provide trailers or other housing alternatives, especially to those still in shelters, and asks that victims with larger families receive more money.
FEMA representatives said they had not seen the lawsuit and could not immediately comment.
Those FEMA representatives can "see" the lawsuit right here. Details here from the AP via USA Today. (via JURIST)

if it wasn't the fact that the late Mr. Brown was sitting down in a nice restaurant while people had been dying in the dome ( which by the way was like 1 hr away from new orleans) while he repeatedly was told of the on site situation via his phone of how dire the situation was an then turned it off because of the repeated msg's from his representive, or the fact that the primary job of fema is to make sure communications of both government an locals cowardinate (which didn't happen for 3 days even though he is part of the emergency prepared system),or the fact we who lived it have been directed into situations via red cross an fema leaders that is no help at all with the promise to be fast an helping (but only to leave us all in comprimising positions).or maybe we are all just crazy from the sitting on the phone for hours hoping that some person on the fema end will actually here our plea an help (or maybe just pick up the phone)
i say to anyone who has a family that has found there self in a position like this look your kid in the eye an tell him or her that's just the way it is the government makes promises to help an they lie but you can believe everything else. as they take 18% or more of your annual income for the rest of your life. BS that's what starts revolutions just ask the french ,...... an you eat the cake i want what i have been promised for the last 2 + months. I wonder if the person who wrote the last post even opened his door or heart to the 1 million plus people who are out on the streets in the miss, la, and al areas.
did we not learn from 911 an what's difference hereif a terrorist did it we have pity an if a act of nature does it, it just happens,...5000+ people involved with 911, 1 million + KatrinaI don't understand,... what's wrong with this picture.
200 billion dollars divided between 1 million comes up to about 200,000 per person i would be really happy with just a tenth of that,... but why give me or any other person a dime when the politicians can steal it all,... I mean isn't it our money the people's just for that time when we needed it most. I mean im a vet my father was vet,... an im sure many other family's have supported the constitution of this great country.
hey but what do i know im just living it

Please review my website below which I created for those who have frustrations and complaints concerning FEMA.
My 80 yr. old mother has still not received anything from FEMA. I received $2,000 but last week received a letter saying I will have to return the sum, as I had already applied for my mother. Each of us live in a duplex owned by my mother. I pay her rent and have a different address.
My ex-wife just now received a FEMA trailer. Her house and my 36-yr. old handicap daughter's apt. were unlivable. The have been living with friends in a small 3- bedroom house.
I am a New Orleans musician. I was laid off as my office was flooded and has to gutted. Now, I have no medical, no gigs and no job. I do have my house and thankfully, by guitars.
I would look forward to an interview. People forget quickly. Katrina survivors must keep our story alive.
Thanks for you consideration.
